International. Access to high-definition television, HDTV, will reach 50% by 2016, according to the report entitled "Prediciones HDTV, 3DTV y DVR" by the company Market Research.
The outlook is even more encouraging, as in 18 of the countries included in the report, HDTV penetration will be up to 80% for that year. In addition, in 40 countries evaluated the scope of this format will double, going from 25.9% in 2011 to 50.9% in 2016.
"Most of the equipment on sale in developed markets supports HD, and a high proportion also includes 3D functionality," said Simon Murray, author of the report.
Murray added that "retail prices are falling as production reaches economies of scale, competition increases, and consumer acceptance grows."
In fact, by the end of 2011 there were more than 300 million households ready for HDTV deployment in the 40 countries evaluated by the report. In the United States, the figure reached 79 million households. By 2016 in these 40 countries it will reach 652 million.
