International. A new service of audiovisual content in streaming will be launched to the market, as announced by Verzion, the telephone operator with the largest number of subscribers in the United States. UU and Coinstar, parent of the chain of video clubs Redbox.
The two companies have explained that they will establish a joint venture that will offer all the titles of Redbox's extensive archive, which can be downloaded or streamed over the Internet by Verizon subscribers.
The new platform that will be available in the second half of 2012 will have a single fee, which will allow users to access both Redbox's physical and digital Verzion content. The Joint Venture will be 65% distributed to Verizon and 35% to Coinstar.
The platform is expected to compete directly with Netflix, which already has more than 25 million subscribers in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean and has just arrived in the United Kingdom and Ireland as well.
The alliance will mark Verizon's first breakthrough in streaming real-time video beyond its operational region of the network because the phone company currently only offers internet video services to customers using FiOS television service.
