Venezuela. From Argentina, equipment, antennas and encoders will arrive in Venezuelan territory to make feasible the installation of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in this country, according to the statements of President Hugo Chávez the project will increase the supply of channels since it allows, in the same spectrum, to include up to four new signals for each one that existed.
Digital television will arrive in a first stage to urban centers and major cities, "it is estimated that in a period of two years it will be extended to almost the entire Venezuelan territory," said the Minister of Science and Technology, Jorge Arreaza.
Since the sixth of February, the installation of the equipment began, with the advantage that already in June of last year a positive test of the project had been carried out. Like most countries in the region, Venezuelans have opted for the Brazilian-Japanese ISDB-T standard for the implementation of digital terrestrial television.
On the other hand, the Venezuelan president recalled that in the last visit of the Argentine president, Cristina Fernández to Venezuela, they agreed to create a binational strategic commission and a fund to prop up and give greater viability to encoder factories for digital television.
