Mexico. The Comisión Federal de Telecomunicaciones (Cofetel) met for the first time this year on January 11 with the aim of discussing different issues of interest to the television industry in Mexico, including the award of two new channels.
However, despite the expectations created by the plenary of the organization, at the end of the meeting the guidelines to be used for the tender that will award the new television channels were not yet defined .
This occurred because the members of the organization decided to give more time to analyze the matter and chose to postpone decision-making until the next meeting of the entity to be held on January 18.
It is worth noting that the decision to create new channels was supported by a survey in which, of 451 participants, only 9.8% considered the television offer in Mexico sufficient.
In addition, the producers and potential investors who participated in the study affirmed almost in their entirety, 93% and 100% respectively, that the creation of a new digital television network would be viable at an economic level.
