Latin America. The satellite television operator DirectTV is betting on the massification and consolidation of 3D content in the region, so it decided to invest in a satellite that will allow it to expand its programming offer in that format, according to the EFE news agency.
The launch of the DTVLA-1 satellite will be carried out by the company Arianespace from the Kurú Space Center, located in French Guiana, in 2014 in order to expand the capacity and improve the quality of the services offered by DirecTV in the region, where there is an increasing demand for content in high definition and 3D format.
The need to transmit content in this format is justified in the forecasts that currently exist for the penetration of 3D televisions in the market. In fact, a study published by the company Dataxis ensures that by 2016, one in ten televisions in Latin America will have this technology.
In addition, according to the sales expectations presented in the study, in 2011 1.25 million 3D televisions will be sold and by 2016 the total accumulated figure will be close to 15 million homes with equipment of this type, for 10% of the total flat screens in the region.
The above is a sample of the trends that are imposed today in the field of television and for which the different companies must prepare at a technological and technical level.
