International. Since 1996, every November 21 the Organización de Naciones Unidas, UN, commemorates World Television Day, highlighting its importance for the world economy and its repercussions for social and cultural development.
"Television has a growing influence on the decision-making process by drawing global attention to conflicts and threats to peace and security, as well as the role it can play in focusing attention on other important issues, including economic and social issues."
The General Assembly of the multilateral organization declared this day in commemoration of the date on which the First World Television Forum was held at the United Nations in 1996.
On that date, it extended an invitation for States to observe World Television Day by promoting global exchanges of television programmes focusing on issues such as peace, security, economic and social development and the promotion of cultural exchange.
The forum was attended by leading media figures to discuss the importance of television in today's evolving world and to consider how they could intensify their mutual cooperation.
