United States. As an indication of the consumption of HDTVs, a study conducted by Retrevo (electronic equipment store) revealed that a third of consumers plan to buy an HDTV next year, but among those buyers less than one in four will buy a 3DTV.
The study consulted 1,000 people in October, of whom 33% plan to buy an HDTV in the next year, of that percentage 55% say they would not buy a 3DTV, 23% say they would buy a 3DTV if the price difference for that additional capacity is small, and 22% say they will buy a 3DTV.
While the prices of a 3DTV begin to fall, the consumer gave some reasons why he would not buy a TV with this technology: 40% say that there is not enough programming available in that format and 30% affirm that the use of glasses still means a problem.
The study concludes that as long as the prices of both technologies remain so distant, there is not enough reason for the user to lean towards a 3DTV. Currently one of the attractions of this technology and that could potentially boost its sales are 3D games, available on the latest generation consoles.
