Mexico. Before the Federal Telecommunications Commission, Cofetel, Azteca filed a complaint against Telmex for the transmissions that the latter is making through the Internet, violating the concession contract that was granted only for data.
According to the arguments of azteca's legal spokesman, Luis Niño, through UnoTV, Telmex is broadcasting live formula 1 races and the competitions of the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, which is expressly prohibited.
Telmex's response was immediate. Through its director of Corporate Communication, Arturo Elías Ayub, the company denied the accusations, claiming that it is prohibited from broadcasting television and what it is doing is a transmission of an event over the Internet.
He added that Telmex negotiated directly with the organizers of the games the Internet broadcasting rights for Mexico and for 11 other Latin American countries the television rights.
But Arturo Elías Ayub went further and said that this is an attempt by Azteca that seeks to restrict freedom of expression on the Internet, "a fact that is unprecedented."
Luis Niño responded to these arguments by saying that they are only technicalities that seek to distract public opinion, while Telmex seeks to keep a business that does not correspond to it, affecting the companies that are dedicated to marketing those transmissions with advertising sales on the measured audience.
Now the Cofetel is the one who has the floor, it must process the complaint and resolve which of the two is right.
