Latin America. Akamai and Harmonic introduced Akamai Media Services Live 5 (MSL5), based on Harmonic technology. The new generation of the MSL platform expands its capabilities by supporting new media formats, establishing an advanced monetization system, and enhancing viewing experiences.
With MSL5, streaming service providers and broadcasters improve their video distribution to deliver reliable, high-quality live streaming, for example at sporting events.
Because MSL5 runs on the Akamai Cloud, it enables media companies to deploy critical workloads and make their distributions as close to viewers as possible. This reduces latency and achieves more reliable and consistent performance across networks and devices.
Akamai MSL5 comes with the following standard enhancements:
● Increased throughput: Reduced time to first byte and implemented low-latency HTTP live streaming distribution (5-7 seconds end-to-end) to increase responsiveness in live broadcasts.
● Extended Time Window to DVR: The digital video recorder (DVR) goes from storing 30 minutes of live to 12 hours, giving audiences greater control to pause, rewind, and play video.
● Optimized user experience: It only takes 5 seconds to access the stream, and the interfaces are clearer and give access to improved metrics and system status at a glance.
● Precision Event Tools: The Event Management API allows you to trim snippets accurately to highlight notable event content.
