MADRID, 17 May. (Portaltic/EP) -
An employee of Apple's French headquarters, Thomas Bordage, has been threatened with disciplinary sanction for his "bad habit" of staying 20 minutes longer in his post on days when he had more work.
On Monday, Thomas Bordage, an Apple worker for the Apple Opera division in Paris, was called to the offices of the company's headquarters in the French capital because of his habit of leaving his post 20 minutes later those days when he had the highest volume of work, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.
Far from offering him any kind of incentive for his increased productivity, the company threatened to impose a disciplinary sanction if he did not abandon those "bad habits" since that extra time bordage spent in the company "were not justified".
According to the version of the employee, a member of the LDS union, the meeting "a little tense", could be related to his involvement in the strike that stopped the production of the iPhone 5 last October due to the conditions of the employees.
The strike kept Foxconn's factories in China and Taiwan on tenterhooks because of the poor working conditions they were in. According to the statements of the workers themselves, the "excessive demands for product quality", agreed by Foxconn and Apple without having received "adequate training" meant that employees could not achieve the objectives demanded by the company.
"The quality control inspectors clashed with the workers, who beat them on multiple occasions. However, the management of the factory has not addressed the complaints and has not taken measures to resolve them," the organization added.
In spite of everything, the case of Thomas Bordage is now in a simple wake-up call in which the company pretends that employees do not work longer than stipulated.
