CRU and CESCO will be holding the second Water, Energy and Mining Summit on April 11 at the Grand Hyatt Santiago in Chile, as part of CESCO week. The summit will feature key speakers from Energinet, E.on, AMSA, Comisión Nacional de Energía, the Government of Chile, CDEC, Consejo Minero and Caserones who will discuss the long-term implications of the energy and water crisis for the Chilean mining sector; and consequently to the copper market.

The one-day Summit will open with speeches from CESCO, Ministry of Mining and Ministry of Energy, the first speaker will be from the Association of Generators of Chile and Antofagasta.

There will be three key sessions that will focus on:

- Improvement in the availability of energy for the mining sector.

- New sources of power generation.

- Water and energy.

As Chile ramps up copper production, there will be more pressure on energy and water resources. The north of Chile comprises the most important copper reserve in the world, it is also one of the driest regions in the world and far from the hydroelectric sources located in the south of the country.

The decline in minerals and the expansion of green lands generate more pressure on Chile's energy and water resources, increasing technical difficulties and costs; and creating conflicts with political, social and environmental groups.

This event will provide a useful platform for discussion of these issues within the mining community and will provide industry professionals with opportunities to present their proposals to industry experts.

This Summit will take place alongside the 12th CRU World Copper Conference, which will be held from 8 to 10 April 2013 in Santiago.  Annually, the conference attracts more than 600 leaders from mining, financial and related industries.
