SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 7 (Reuters/EP) -
Yahoo Inc said Tuesday it has fired its chief executive Carol Bartz and replaced her on an interim basis with chief financial officer Tim Morse, ending two years of stagnant growth and bitter rift with its Chinese partner Alibaba.
Bartz, famous for her scathing language, said in a two-sentence email sent to her employees — seen by Reuters — that President Roy Bostock fired her in a phone call.
"I'm very sorry to tell you that I just got fired through a phone call from the chairman of Yahoo's board of directors. It has been a pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you all the best in the future," Bartz said in the email.
Bostock in June expressed public support for the chief executive, a lightning rod for Criticism of Wall Street, known for her tough attitude.
The company's shares rose in after-session trading to $13.72 (9.7 euros), after closing at $12.91 (9.2 euros) on the Nasdaq.
The news was initially confirmed by technology blog AllThingsD, which cited company sources.
