MADRID, 29 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) -
Eutelsat Communications has been awarded a contract with the EgyptSat group to market a satellite broadband Internet service in Egypt for 20 million euros, the operator said.
Under the agreement, which will run over the next six years, the technology provider will market Eutelsat's next-generation satellite service 'Tooway' in Egypt to users who cannot access terrestrial or wireless networks.
The 'Tooway' service offers satellite Internet solutions at "competitive" prices for small offices and homes in industrial and economic centers in the north of the country, Eutelsat explained.
Specifically, this service allows access to the network with download speeds of up to 10 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 4 Mbps for EgyptSat users residing in areas with limited access to other broadband solutions.
The 'Tooway' service consists of a satellite dish and a modem connected to the computer via Ethernet, offering customers Internet access without the need for a telephone line.
For EgyptSat CEO Elghamry Mohamed, Tooway is the best choice for the new era that is beginning in Egypt, where Internet users have increased from 21 million to 25.4 million after the January 25 revolution.
"With a price similar to that of ADSL, Tooway is the key to this new stage. We expect the service to meet the significant demand for internet in the Egyptian territory and in the region, where many places need high-speed Internet at a reasonable price," he added.
