NAB. Within the framework of NAB 2014, many companies are presenting their 4K solutions. Rohde & Schwarz is one of them, which among its novelties has solutions for the entire transmission path of the 4K high-resolution video format.
The company offers products for the areas of post-production, ingestion, storage, playout, coding and multiplexing. Also the new series of transmitters are prepared for 4K transmission. For the development and production phases of 4K consumer electronic equipment, the company offers the corresponding test and measurement systems.
The company has been accumulating experience with the 4K format since 2005, specifically in film post-production, through its subsidiary Rohde & Schwarz DVS.
Postproduction
The CLIPSTER mastering station processes 4K data in real time. It takes care of the ingestion of high-resolution material, and is compatible with numerous RAW camera formats and codecs such as Sony XAVC. The mastering station also plays an important role in the distribution of content within the 4K processing chain. Since Clipster offers the mezzanine IMF (interoperable master format), users can also create the corresponding IMF packages. It also offers 4K HFR DCI mastering, in this case even with Dolby Atmos.
Storage
For the storage of the huge volumes of data from 4K production environments, Rohde & Schwarz DVS presents its innovative scalable storage solution SpycerBox Cell. It allows you to process data in HD, 4K or even higher resolutions, as are usual in the workflow of TV production and post-production. In just one rack unit there are 30 hard drives, which can also be changed during operation.
Presentation
Rohde & Schwarz DVS presents as a novelty in the NAB Pronto4K-HFR, the latest member incorporated into the range of products for high-quality video presentations. The high-resolution content player allows you to play uncompressed footage with up to 4K/60p RGB 12-bit through four DisplayPort 1.1 interfaces. Thanks to its flexibility, Pronto4K-HFR is the ideal solution for large screens or LCD screens for fairs, concerts or amusement parks. For uncompressed 4K material it will reach up to 120p by the end of the year, that is, 120 images per second. In this way a fairly harmonious image rich in details is achieved with extreme clarity.
Encoding and multiplexing
For real-time 4K content post-processing, Rohde & Schwarz offers its R&S AVHE100 header. This is fully compatible with the new HEVC coding standard for 4K and HD. Incoming 3G SD signals are synchronized on the R&S AVHE100 to generate a 4K image. HEVC encoders process 4K data and generate mpeg TS according to the DVB standard. The output signal can be redistributed either via ASI or IP.
Transmitters
Rohde & Schwarz's R&S Tx9 transmitter series make it possible to broadcast 4K content. They combine maximum power density with innovative technologies such as MultiTX, which allows multiple transmitters to be mounted in a rack. In addition, they stand out for their excellent energy efficiency and flexibility. This allows network operators and broadcasters to reduce the costs of high energy prices and the rental of facilities.
Instrumentation
For the development and production phases of 4K consumer electronics, Rohde & Schwarz offers its test and measurement systems. With the R&S BTC Broadcast Test Center, users have a complete test environment that covers virtually all audio, video and multimedia applications in a single instrument. In addition, it allows you to analyze audio/video on devices under test internally and in real time. Thanks to the modular, highly scalable concept, R&S BTC adapts to any customer requirement and can already transmit 4K signals to set-top boxes and televisions.
VTC, VTE and VTS video test systems enable extensive testing on consumer electronic equipment with video processing. Since they offer both analysis and generation of HDMI signals with resolutions up to 4K, users can check the interface (including the corresponding control protocols and certification), as well as the complete device.
