NAB. The Panasonic company took advantage of the first day of the fair to present its novelties, the line of products based on 4K technology, in which its 4K VariCamm 35mm camera stands out.
This equipment incorporates a new 35 mm super MOS sensor from the AVC-ULTRA family. The new camera provides excellent handling in multiple formats, including 4K, UHD, 2K and HD, being a tool for high-end cinema, and commercials and episodic production as well as for live events.
The 4K camera module unit (AU-V35C1) is separate but attachable to the recording module unit (AU-VREC1), which is also interchangeable with the new Panasonic 2/3 camera module unit (AU-V23HS1). This system flexibility can be extended with an umbilical cable between the 4K 35mm camera and the AVC-ULTRA recorder, providing "box" camera functionality for spotlights, cranes and other "remote" camera needs. The Varicam 35 will launch fall 2014.
Panasonic also announced the 2/3" VariCam HS, which features high 1080p image rate capture of up to 240fps to produce high-definition images focused on the most demanding documentary, sports or SFX slow-motion applications.
The two new Varicam models (the Varicam 35 and VariCam HS) enjoy an inventive design innovation by the 4K and 2/3" camera heads that are independent of but attachable to the recording module, allowing professionals to switch between the 35mm and 2/3" heads that best suit creative needs. Both include advanced video codecs from Panasonic's AVC-ULTRA family.
More 4K
Panasonic also introduced two 98- and 84-inch 4K monitors, as well as a 4K DLP projector. Both products are part of the prototypes that the company is developing under this technology.
