Peru. At the end of 2017, mobile coverage with 4G technology reached a total of 30,085 population centers in Peru, a figure that represents a growth of 431.7% when compared to the 5,658 population centers of 2016, as reported by the operating companies to Osiptel.
The company Bitel leads the ranking by extending its service to 16,464 population centers, while the company Claro reaches 6,480 population centers and Movistar to 3,741. Meanwhile, Entel covers 3,400 population centers.
4G technology allows to improve the speed of navigation and data transmission through the cell phone. In some regions, 4G coverage tripled, with the cases of Áncash, Puno, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Cusco, Huánuco, Junín, La Libertad and Lima being the most outstanding
Signal in 3G
A total of 61,954 population centers have 3G coverage in Peru. The result represents a growth of 56.7% compared to 2016 (39,525).
The company Bitel provides the service in 30,331 population centers, a result that is equivalent to 49% of the total coverage with 3G technology. Meanwhile, Claro has coverage in 16,651 population centers, Movistar 8,080 and Entel 6,892, respectively.
Likewise, a total of 45,882 population centers have at least some type of mobile technology (2G, 3G and 4G) from an operating company, a result that represented an increase of 21.5% at the end of 2017, compared to the result of 2016 (37,872 population centers).
Greater infrastructure
Operating companies reported a growth of 17.4% in the installation of Base Stations (antennas), which allow better mobile phone coverage. In 2017, 20,630 stations were installed that support technologies: 2G, 3G and 4G.
The company Movistar registered the largest deployment of infrastructure with 7,438 stations, followed by the company Claro (5,066) Bitel (4,524) and Entel (3,602), respectively.
It should be noted that OSIPTEL projected that the sector needs to install in 2017, a total of 21,888 Base Stations to cover the demand for mobile telephony.
