Panasonic has developed a new technology that performs high-resolution 8K (36M pixels), 60fps framerate, 450k high-saturation electrons and global shutter image with sensitivity modulation function simultaneously, using a CMOS image sensor with organic photoconducting film, OPF for its English name.
In this OPF CMOS image sensor, the photoelectric conversion part and the circuit part are independent. By using this unique structure of the OPF CMOS image sensor, they have been able to recently develop and incorporate high-speed noise cancellation technology and high-saturation technology into the circuit part.
And, by using this unique OPF CMOS image sensor sensitivity control function to vary the voltage applied to the OPF, it performs the global shutter function. The technology that achieves these returns simultaneously is the first in the industry.
With the technology, it is possible to capture images at 8K resolution, even in high-contrast scenes, such as a field under strong sunlight and spectator seating under the roof of a stadium.
By using the global shutter function that allows simultaneous capture of images by all pixels, it is expected that it can capture moving objects instantly without distortion, be used for multi-point of view cameras (making synchronized images from multiple views using plural cameras) and be used in fields that require high speed and high resolution, such as machine vision and STI monitoring.
In addition, conventionally, even in scenes where it was necessary to use different ND filters according to the capture conditions, the technology performs a new electronically controlled variable ND filter function that allows continuous adjustment of the OPF sensitivity simply by controlling the voltage applied to the OPF.
