NAB. More than ever before, Alexa delivers the best image quality and efficient workflow with SXT cameras. Striking a perfect balance between pixel size and resolution, the Alexa SXT produces images in HD, 2K and 4K, while delivering the highest dynamic range of any camera on the market.
Not only does it meet the distribution resolution needs of 4K and UHD with easy workflows, but it is uniquely equipped to create content that takes full advantage of new display technologies with high dynamic range (HDR).
In addition, the ability to record up to 120 fps with full image quality means that High Frame Rate (HFR) can also be implemented to extend the viewer experience. The growing popularity of anamorphic shooting is unbeatably favored by the high alexa sensor unique in its kind and the new anamorphic recording formats offered in the SXT.
New recording formats
Whatever the budget, the market you want to reach, the resolution requirements, aspect ratio, choice of lenses or post-production intentions, there is an ideal Alexa SXT format to ensure fast handling on set and a perfectly integrated post process. Alexa SXT cameras offer a total of 14 recording formats including the following new modes:
ProRes 2K and 4K Anamorphic Cinema
These ready-to-connect and-use options offer the most economical path to the best image quality with anamorphic lenses. The camera creates a ProRes image ready to view in the DCI format of 2K or 4K, without debayer, cropping, resizing or decompression needed in post.
Open Gate ProRes 3.4K
Open Gate with a lower data rate. It combines the immediacy, speed and economy of ProRes with the resolution advantages of Open Gate.
ARRIRAW 3.2K
It offers the largest pixel raster that also enters the image circle of almost all ARRI Super 35 lenses with PL mount and reaches 120 fps. Less a data loader than a 4K, but with enough resolution for padding or up-sampling.
More flexibility for on-set monitoring
The Alexa SXT now features four independent monitoring outputs, which adapt to the needs of different people on set. Each output has completely different settings such as image processing, surround vision, status information, peaking and false color.
The color gamut captured by the Alexa is higher than what is needed for the output of Rec 709 or Rec 2020, so the Alexa SXT allows a separate configuration of Rec 709 or Rec 2020 for each MON OUT output. While recording on Alexa has been HDR since 2010, the Alexa SXT is now ready for hdr monitoring on set.
Alexa SXT cameras feature new components including electronic and image processing from the Alexa 65, as well as color management and noise reduction from the Amira. They share the same qualities of previous Alexa cameras but offer much more versatile recording and monitoring options, improved look handling, and better hardware and software for higher image quality. A new media bay panel supports larger and faster capture SXR disks but is also compatible with existing older digital media. Interface enhancements include a single-speed mode that accelerates frame rate changes as well as an improved Web remote control.
