Colombia. Dalet announced that Win Sports, a Colombian sports channel, has selected the Dalet Galaxy Media Asset Management (MAM) content management platform for the integrated management of program preparation, production and archiving workflows.
The new facility also includes the dalet AmberFin high-quality media conversion and processing platform as well as Dalet Brio video servers to help digitize the company's historical content to the Dalet Galaxy media catalog, providing an infrastructure that revitalizes control over channel assets.
"Our starting point was to improve workflow efficiency, particularly around the use of archived material, but what we have discovered working with Dalet is a MAM that has changed our entire perspective on program production," said William Albarracín, Technical Director of Win Sports.
He added that "For example, with new metadata our journalists or producers can now search for and access historical content for themselves and know the information about the rights of the material with a flexibility, speed and accuracy that was simply not possible before. Our ability to manage the status of projects for approval or review is also strengthened, plus we can optimize the content of our library, rejecting or accepting material, as we have full control over what happens there. We knew dalet Galaxy was a market leader in MAM technology, but working in partnership with Dalet has allowed us to deepen its capabilities, and we look forward to exploiting new tools and implementations as we move our business forward."
In order to improve workflow efficiency and digitize media stored on tape, Win Sports required a MAM solution to support, facilitate, and integrate its news flows, production, and program archiving. A critical aspect of the company's strategy was to be able to search and retrieve its archived content to enrich live streams.
"Win Sports was looking for a media asset management platform to cope with the weight of its transition to file-based workflows, and we are proud to have contributed our solution," said Julien Decaix, general manager, Dalet Americas. "A project of this magnitude requires a lot of confidence in the company's implementation skills, and Dalet has gained this kind of experience over the past decade. Deployed in less than four months, the MAM Dalet Galaxy automated all the multiple Win Sports workflows needed to produce content and prepare programs in a growing number of formats, and also provides them with a number of content management tools that will continue to update their production line for many years to come."
The Dalet Galaxy system integrates elegantly with Avid Media Composer non-linear editors through the Dalet Xtend module, integrating content production. Dalet Galaxy also supports the production of promos and long-form programming from its studios for direct broadcast over cable networks.
Dalet Brio, under the control of the Dalet Galaxy MAM, is used to digitize historical content on Betacam tapes, VHS and a variety of DVDs and record additional incoming material from DVC Pro and other linear formats. In addition, Dalet WebSpace and Media Logger allow staff to add a variety of metadata to all new and newly digitized material, further enhancing the ability to search and reuse content. Staff can also use Dalet clients to detect and check channel synchronization and audio volume, ensuring the appropriate content stream for the established channels.
Founded and supported by DirectTV and the RCN Group, Win Sports is a leading 24-hour, sports-focused channel that reaches more than 5 million homes through various cable services in Colombia. Its mix of reporting and news, magazine programs and live broadcasts include the flagship programs of Colombian Professional Soccer, Futsal and Basketball.
