International. Solid State Logic launched the new delta Duality and AWS consoles, aimed at large-scale commercial studios, medium-sized, educational and private production studios around the world and its sound has been the foundation of countless multi-platinum recordings.
The new consoles mark the introduction of delta-Control (d-Ctrl), an analog console automation platform for SSL studio technology that unites the best of automation in the analog domain with the DAW-based workflow. The new Duality and AWS consoles will be delta models and updates are available for all models that precede them.
At the heart of dCtrl is a native plug-in AAX/RTAS/AU/VST/VST3 that allows the automation of the console as if it were a daW plug-in. The automation system in the DAW is used to record and play back control data from the faders and console switches as an alternative to the SSL legacy console automation system.
The d-Ctrl plug-in is inserted into an audio mixing channel within the DAW. The plug-in then receives and sends control data from an assigned channel in the console or VCA or Master fader over a high-speed Ethernet network connection. The audio in a DAW track passes through the plug-in space without processing so the plug-in can be combined with other DAW plug-ins.
The console fader, the mutes and the relevant switches are represented as parameters within the plug-in in a plug-in-Ctrl GUI and their automation data is recorded to the automation track of the chosen channel of the DAW. During playback, the plug-in converts automation data from the DAW to d-Ctrl messages and routes it back to the console via the Logictivity Network SSL connection network.
Automation data can be viewed and edited as normal plug-in data on DAW tracks. The Absolute and Trim values of the console fader are saved using the same dB law as your choice of DAW automation so that the command can be used to copy data from the existing DAW fader to the plug-in.
The Paste Special feature is available in Pro-Tools and in many, but not all, DAWs. d-Ctrl retains all key elements of the SSL Mixing System with many appreciated features such as JOIN, REVISE, ENGINES OFF and SNAP Override all activated from the dedicated switches on the front panel.
