Panasonic announced that it has developed the world's first Blu-ray DiscTM playback technology that offers compatibility with the latest technologies such as 4K and High Dynamic Range, which are expected to be adopted in the next generation of standards for Blu-ray Disc2 (ULTRA HD BLU-RAY TM). A prototype player was presented at the CES 2015 International Exhibition.
This prototype integrates the video processing and optical disc drive technologies that Panasonic has refined over many years, making it capable of playing high-resolution 4K video and being compatible with the latest High Dynamic Range technologies that marks a great leap within the maximum brightness of 100 nit previous3 to 1000 - 10 000 nit to improve the power of expression; BT.2020 wide color gamut standard, which greatly increases color reproduction; High efficiency VIDEO COMPRESSION TECHNOLOGY HEVC (H.265)/ Blu-ray Disc playback at a high bitrate of 100Mbps.
This marks a breakthrough in video quality over today's Blu-ray players, and paves the way for allowing consumers to enjoy the crisp, near-reality quality of incredible 4K Ultra HD content in their homes.
