Latin America. Blackmagic Design released software update 1.8 which includes features for all its cameras which is now available to download for free for all customers from the Blackmagic Design support page.
The new 1.8 software features a new code base for all digital cinema cameras, thus providing a foundation for the new features. This update supports the original wide dynamic range of the 2.5K cinema camera, Pocket Cinema Camera and the 4K Camera Production.
This new code base also improves performance, and includes a new modern user interface similar in design to the new URSA camera announced at NAB. It adds compressed RAW DNG support for the Blackmagic Production 4K Camera model, and this allows real-time RAW recording for all sensor data can be captured allowing for greater range and much higher image quality when doing post-production and color grading.
DaVinci Resolve 11, also available today, fully supports RAW classification and can process the direct final result of the original RAW camera files. This means customers get first-generation masters, with a solution that edits RAW files as easily and as responsibly as a regular video file.
It also includes major improvements to the original Cinema camera models, such as better audio performance and a new bayer processor with higher quality completely rewritten. This new bayer processing features algorithms that have been incorporated from DaVinci Resolve, meaning that Blackmagic camera customers get the benefit of research and development in image processing and its partnership with major Hollywood studios.
