NAB. With the philosophy that characterizes them that silver should not affect creativity, Blackmagic presented its new line of products, among which are six cameras, of which five are 4K, and the new version of DaVinci Resolver 11, which adds 70 new functions.
URSA is the new camera for professional sessions. It includes a 35mm 4K Super sensor upgradeable image with the global shutter, 12G-SDI connections, XLR audio inputs with dual CFast phantom power and RAW and ProRes based recorders. There are a total of 3 LCDs built into this camera.
The camera is upgradeable by the user. What this means is the entire sensor and the mounting lens can simply be moved from the front using four bolts. So in the future, when new sensors are available it can be upgraded by simply changing the sensor and lens of the stand unit.
URSA is initially available in two models. One includes EF lens mount and one has a PL lens mount. An example of how you can upgrade the camera would be if you ordered the EF one, you could later buy mount the PL lens and install it yourself.
The camera runs at 60fps, however, the body has the high-speed processing and high cooling capacity to run beyond 100fps, so when the faster sensors are available you could upgrade and then get higher frame rates.
DaVinci Resolve 11
Blackmagic's other novelty is the DaVinci Resolve 11 update, which adds more than 70 new editing features, including dual monitor support and professional tools known as dynamic JKL cropping, audio fades, and fully customizable keyboard shortcuts to make editing faster.
DaVinci Resolve 11 now has a new curve editor that positions keyframes directly below each clip. You can also add and animate FX plug-ins opened directly in the timeline, as well as use plug-ins for transitions.
There are new collaborative workflow tools in DaVinci Resolve 11 that allow one editor and multiple colorists to work across different workstations, sharing the same timeline and working together. Another advantage of the enhanced editing features is the best back-and-forth collaboration with Apple Final Cut Pro X.
Color correction features have also been updated, including new color correction controls for photographers who are moving in cinematography. It also features an automatic color chart balancing tool. Most of these new features will also be available in DaVinci Resolve Lite.
