NAB. As part of the NAB Show 2014, Adobe announced Primetime 2.0, the TV delivery and monetization platform for programmers and pay-TV service providers. It includes a new cloud service that allows customers to insert ads into live, linear and on-demand content across any platform, which translates into flexibility and greater reach to monetize content across devices.
It also unveiled Concurrency Monitoring as an extension of the Emmy Award-winning Primetime PayTV Pass service, which allows customers to manage the numbers of streams made across each device.
"Primetime has become the leading platform for making TV Everywhere accessible and monetized to broadcasters and pay-TV providers. This new version of Primetime leverages the latest industry innovations and introduces new capabilities that drive strong viewer engagement and greater flexibility for monetization," said Jeremy Helfand, vice president, Adobe Primetime.
At this year's conference, it's showcasing MPEG-DASH and the new Ultra High Television (UHDTV) standard, which will allow media companies to deliver content through 4K-enabled SmartTVs and other IP-connected devices. New adobe Primetime capabilities include:
Cloud Ad Insertion offers maximum scale of devices and makes it possible to monetize content on any connected device without requiring the customer's code to embed the advertising. The technology supports all TV content and supports HLS to stream any ad to any viewer on any screen. The ability to insert advertising on the client side, which ensures that broadcasters do not have to access large server capacities to reach large audiences, in combination with the insertion of advertising in the cloud, makes Primetime the only solution that delivers and monetizes content, which is independent of the industry format. It also offers flexibility and maximum scale to companies that sell television advertising through the devices. Primetime cloud advertising insertion is now available.
Primetime Concurrency Monitoring enables PROGRAMMERS and TV operators to enforce broadcast policies across devices. The new technology, which is currently in beta, offers a universal count of active streams on behalf of a user in real time, across browsers and devices. Operators and programmers can understand counting activities and decide whether to allow or limit video playback or enable new types of pay-TV packages and additional charges. With Primetime Concurrency Monitoring, Adobe is the first company to support the new OATC RUM specification that standardizes formats and workflows for data collection and exchange between operators and programmers.
4K support ensures that Primetime customers can deliver the highest resolution content on the latest generation of digital devices, allowing consumers to enjoy stunning visual experiences. Primetime leverages the latest UHDTV hardware capabilities to ensure fully optimized performance. A preview of 4K support is being shown at NAB and is expected to be distributed this summer.
Primetime 2.0 also offers support for the new MPEG-DASH streaming format in its central video engine layer. Support for the new industry standard gives programmers and operators the flexibility to deliver consistent video experiences across devices using their preferred format.
In addition to the desktop operating system, SmartTVs, Android and iOS devices, Primetime 2.0 now supports XBox 360 gaming consoles and Roku devices.
Adobe continues to expand its industry partnerships for Primetime. Therefore, together with thePlatform they announced a partnership to integrate thePlatform's mpx video management system, including its Player Development Kit (PDK) with Adobe Primetime, across all devices supported by Primetime.
