According to the explanations of the regulatory body after announcing the news, the new standard for Honduras meets the technical characteristics to achieve greater coverage and use of spectrum and the use of other services. In addition, he stressed that this model was adopted in most of the countries of the region.
Regarding the trauma that could be caused by the change of digital television standard in television channels and operators in Honduras, Conatel said that they are minimal, since in the country there are few companies that had initiated the process. What the regulatory body did not clarify is whether those few who had started the process were going to receive some subsidy or economic aid to reduce the damages.
Making an assessment of the Central American countries, only Guatemala and Costa Rica adopted the ISDB-T model, while others such as El Salvador, Nicaragua and Belize would be thinking of making the choice of the same or change for the same standard.
After announcing the change of the standard, Conatel set as a target date for the analog blackout in television services for 2018, that is, that in five years THE TV will be digital under the ISDB-T model.
