Mexico. Despite having ratified the deadline for the blackout of analog television in Mexico, it seems that many still have doubts. Therefore, the Federal Telecommunications Commission, Cofetel, must deliver the updated work plan for the coming years on this issue.
The legislators of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, who made the request through an agreement approved in plenary, hope that Cofetel will give them a detailed calendar with the actions they will execute to conclude the digital television process.
In this agreement, they also request the Ministry of Economy to take the necessary measures, with the support of the regulatory entities, to prohibit once and for all the sale of analog televisions in the country, which would end up affecting in the medium term those who buy them taking advantage of the promotions that are in the trade, and thus enhance the sale of those who bring the new technology.
The deputies also clarified that the new work schedule should not be affected by the electoral processes that take place this and the next years in Mexico, as it is considered as a public policy with influence throughout society.
The new schedule of the Cofetel will take into consideration the pilot project that was carried out in Tijuana, the first place in this country in which analog television was turned off, after a process that concluded on May 30 to have more than 92% of digital television coverage, as required by law.
