Mexico. After Tijuana was declared the first region in Mexico to have digital television coverage on May 28, at the end of a pilot process that was carried out in this area, analog television will be turned on again.
This decision was taken by Cofetel because two days after the so-called "analog blackout", the entity received the Agreement of the Radio and Television Committee of the Federal Electoral Institute requesting support to reestablish the analog transmission of open television signals in Tijuana, until the conclusion of the election day of July seven.
In this way , it seeks to ensure that all citizens are able to receive messages from electoral authorities and political parties. And it is that the pilot project that was carried out in this area, yielded a penetration of 93.08%, which fully complied with the condition established in the Policy itself as a condition to terminate analog transmissions.
With this decision, the concessionaires and permittees of the Tijuana open television service will be able to resume analog transmissions in accordance with the terms and scope of the Agreement unanimously approved by Cofetel in Extraordinary Session, which will be made known to them through the corresponding notice.
Cofetel set July 18 as the new date for the termination of analog transmissions in Tijuana.
