United States. Without a doubt, the protagonist of this year's NAB Show was 4K technology. Most of the companies presented developments in this regard, but the doubt was also present if the broadcast industry is prepared to assume this natural evolution of the image in its production schemes.
The main conclusion is that there is not a company that has currently developed an entire workflow in 4K under the same brand. To achieve all the work in 4K today, it would be necessary to bring together technologies from different companies and it would be necessary to solve the issue of transmission and televisions for the final consumer, which today have a very high cost.
One of the companies that stood out for the developments in this area was Canon. At its stand, in addition to presenting its cameras, the company dedicated itself to explaining in a technical and didactic way how 4K technology works.
Genaro Arroyo, one of its representatives, explained to TV Y VIDEO that the intention was for broadcast companies to understand what are the benefits of starting to incorporate 4K equipment into their production and how to successfully combine them with their current systems.
For his part, the representative of For A, Pedro Silvestre, stressed that we are at a critical moment in which the broadcast industry will be able to take advantage of useful applications of 4K that cinema has been using for some years. And although some minimum aspects are missing for an optimal functioning of a system based on 4K technology for television, it is expected that in a year the industry will have solved it.
He also stressed, and in that he agrees with the representative of Canon, that some of the most benefited will be those who are dedicated to the production of sports. It is even rumored that Globo of Brazil is planning to make the production of the World Cup to be held in its country based on this technology.
