Latin America. A new recording format, a camera with a large sensor and a professional monitor, are part of the products that Sony presented this week to strengthen its broadcast line under the 4K format.
With the new XAVC recording format, the company seeks to focus its new 4K products, boosting the format in genres such as novels, entertainment programs, documentaries and commercials, that is, focused on the consumer segment.
The XAVC format is designed to deliver a future codec that can meet the changing requirements of rapidly developing 4K content production and hd120P high-frequency image recording.
In terms of video cameras, the new PMW-F55 and PMW-F5 models, which include newer PL lenses, battery, RAW recorder, viewfinders and recording media, fill a critical gap in acquisition with large sensors between Sony's PMW-F3 camcorder and its premium CineAlta F65 4K camera, giving content creators new levels of flexibility and creative options for the acquisition and production of HD content, 2K or 4K.
With a modular and compact design for easy setup, each camera features a new 4K Super 35mm image sensor, with a resolution of 4096 x 2160 (11.6M pixels in total). Both models offer multi-codec compatibility: Sony's new XAVC MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, the SR codec (MPEG4 SStP) and the already established XDCAM 50Mbps 4:2:2 codec.
Andrew Nelles, Senior Marketing Manager at Sony PSLA, said: "The quality of HDTV programming originating from the 4K format is simply incredible and these products will allow both broadcasters and production companies to build the high-end content catalogue of the future now."
The latest of the 4K products presented by Sony, is a 30-inch monitor and resolution of 4096 x 2160, reference PVM-X300, which will offer an effective aid to 4K monitoring in the field. This can display more than quadruple resolution compared to the Full HD format on a single screen.
