Colombia. The National Television Authority defined a new way to settle the fee it charges to companies that provide subscription television service, going from being a percentage of revenue to a fixed rate per registered user of 1,874, but not everyone is happy with the measure.
TV AND VIDEO spoke about the issue with the president of UNE, Marc Eichmann, who said that the measure will directly benefit large operators and affect service delivery plans to people from the lower strata.
"While the companies that provide subscription TV service to the lower strata charge $20,000 per household, other large ones like DirecTV charge $70,000. Now, with the new model, taxes will be the same for everyone, that is, DirecTV will have to pay $ 18,000 million less thanks to the ANTV. This could affect the provision of the service for the lower strata," said Marc Eichmann.
According to the ANTV when communicating its decision, with the adjustment to the rates it is guaranteed that the necessary budget is available to support the development of public television, since with the previous system the collection was lower.
It should be borne in mind that currently the companies providing the subscription TV service are being audited by the ANTV, due to complaints that claim that they are not reporting real subscribers. In this regard, Marc Eichmann, said that in UNE they already supplied this process and did not find any anomaly.
After this measure, which will take effect from the first of October, it is expected that there will be an increase in the costs of pay television for the end user.
