International. Seeking to create a unique software platform for smart TVs or smart TVs, thus facilitating that the developments of new applications can be used on different platforms and not make one for each manufacturer as it happens today, Philips and LG created the Smart TV Alliance.
This initiative of the two companies, hopes to have in the medium term with the support of the other manufacturers of televisions, seeking to turn the platform into a standard for the industry. It is already known that there is interest from some Japanese manufacturers to enter the alliance.
This is a response to the constant criticism of market analysts in the television industry, who say that today it is very difficult to develop content and applications for smart TVs, because each manufacturer has its platform and this makes each application require a particular development for each one.
For the Smart TV Alliance, LG and TP Vision, the latter is the subsidiary of Philips in the international TV market, they decided that the standards of the new platform will be based on HTML5, with the aim of strengthening the creation of applications by independent companies.
To strengthen this work, a Software Development Kit is available on the website of the Smart TV Alliance , through which interested parties can find all the indications for the development of applications and content under the standard of the alliance.
