International. A new OTT platform for subscribers to watch their preferred channels using their broadband and TVs connected to the system, was introduced by the company GlobeCast.
The new platform, called MyGlobeTV, is aimed especially at companies in the television industry in the countries of the Americas. And although it can currently only be used through televisions, they are designing an application so that in the coming months it can be used through all kinds of mobile devices.
The entry into service of MyGlobeTV in the United States is scheduled for the first of July and will gradually be extended to the other countries of the continent. This was announced by Emma Brackett, vice president of Consumer Products and Services at GlobeCast.
He explained that the company's platform for OTT uses a closed network with internet protocol (IP) encryption and delivers tv and radio content directly to the subscriber's home, instead of delivering the content to you on the open internet. Subscribers only require a broadband Internet connection and an easy-to-install MyGlobeTV set-top box, without antennas.
The box itself is a Netgem hybrid set-top box DVR, which supports adaptive streaming, and includes a 320GB hard drive, with 450 hours of DVR capacity. The service allows video on demand (VOD), includes an app for Facebook that allows viewers to access their account, and also provides an antenna to allow the viewing of local channels.
