Germany. "Threei" -Tres, in German- is the first German film production in 35mm format produced entirely in 4K digital resolution for a higher quality in projection, thanks to the equipment of ARRI Film & TV, the German manufacturer of cameras and digital and lighting devices for large format films.The production directed by Tom Tykwer, was filmed with anamorphic lenses, which led ARRI to suggest a post-production in 4K, a process that guarantees a minimum loss of quality, preserving the resolution, definition and brightness of analogous images.
"Working on 4K post-production was a challenge," said ARRI visual effects artist David Laubsch, who explained that the images were in a resolution of 4096 x 3112 with a weight of about 50Mb each, adding that it was "a delight that the film was shot with long-range lenses."
Among the most complex scenes is a sequence of a fetus inside the uterus, made entirely with 3D digital animation, which was considered a technical and creative challenge by the head of 3D visual effects of ARRI, Michael Koch, because the model was "very elaborate since it included veins and skin, and it was a prominent part of the trailer."
