United States. Premium TV channel HBO quietly began streaming 3D movies in January, starting with the film "Clash of the Titans," and among the premieres is expected the broadcast of the blockbuster "Avatar" sometime this year.
At the moment, only cable services Comcast and Verizon Fios broadcast HBO's HD channel on demand, with no extra cost to customers. Additional channels require more bandwidth and with 3D transmissions even more space is needed, because it transmits on two different video channels to create the image, which will generate an additional price.
HBO began its 3D broadcasts around the same time that DISH Network announced it would begin presenting theatrical releases in the same format on its cable service.
