Snell announced during NAB that all systems in the company's product portfolio are 3D-ready and are already being used to support 3D productions worldwide.
Equipped to process images, do live production, automate, control workflows and distribute within 3D environments, Snell's systems enable broadcasters to take advantage of powerful and familiar tools to meet the growing demand for 3D content. Products that enable 3D include the Alcehmist Ph.C – HD standard converter, the Kahuna SD/HD multi-format production switcher, the RollCall control and monitoring system, and Morpheus automation.
Kahuna is the first production switcher to offer the ability to handle stereo video feeds on a single mix bus, as well as the advanced image calibration required to deliver a quality 3D experience to users. Snell's monitoring and control systems also support 3D by enabling parallel signal management and ensuring consistent processing of left and right feeds.
Additionally, the Morpheus automation system is currently being used by a European transmission system for 3D productions. The system allows the twin signals to be treated as a single event in the traffic and operations systems within the facility.
Finally, the Alcehmist Ph.C – HD played a key role in the broadcast of the Six Nations rugby tournament and international broadcasters will be working with the system for 3D coverage of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
