The Brazilian Digital Terrestrial Television System Forum (SBTVD Forum) announced the entry of IBM and Intel into its associative framework. From now on, the two companies will actively collaborate in the process of evolution of the ISDB-T (technical name of the Japanese-Brazilian digital TV standard).
For Frederico Nogueira, president of the SBTVD Forum, the entry of these two companies is an act of recognition of the Japanese-Brazilian standard of digital TV, especially in what has to do with interactivity. "The entry of players with a global presence brings benefits not only for Brazil but for all countries that adopt the same pattern," he said.
According to Fabio Tolentino, product engineer at Intel, a company committed to the production of custom chips for electronic devices that can be used in receivers based on the Japanese-Brazilian standard, digital television is one of the main bets of this company in Latin America.
Cezar Taurion, manager of new technologies for IBM, said his company intends to contribute its experience in the development of different applications.
The increase in the specialized workforce for the development of applications will be another benefit of this alliance. "Interactivity and connectivity are two irreversible trends, in which digital television is one of the best examples, as it means that previously isolated areas such as information technology, television and telecommunications converge, creating new and innovative business opportunities, "which means that previously isolated areas such as information technology, television and telecommunications converge, creating new and innovative business opportunities", Taurion pointed out.
