Colombia. Within the framework of the International Promotion Plan, with the support of the FDC, Proimágenes Colombia was present at the Marché du Film de Cannes 2026, one of the main meeting spaces for the international audiovisual industry.
The plan was developed on two complementary fronts: on the one hand, the International Course, which accompanied selected professionals in different industry spaces. Among them, Colombia's participation for the first time in Cannes Docs stood out, where two Colombian filmmakers received recognition after participating in the showcase organized together with ChileDoc.
On the other hand, the country's presence allowed the Colombian stand to function as a meeting and articulation point for a delegation of 63 Colombian professionals who participated in different activities of the festival and the market.
Colombian talent at the heart of the industry
Part of the Colombian presence in Cannes was articulated through the spaces of the International Direction program of the FDC's International Promotion Plan, which on this occasion accompanied eight professionals in some of the most relevant scenarios of the Marché du Film for documentaries, co-productions and project development.
At Cannes Docs, Juana Lotero and Juanita Onzaga presented their projects at the Docs in Progress showcase organized together with ChileDoc, in front of key industry representatives such as programmers, sales agents, distributors and representatives of international funds that participate in these spaces. Both productions received awards at the close of the presentation. In parallel, Beto Rosero and María Rojas participated in the pitch sessions of the Co-Pro Social Club, a space focused on creative documentaries and the generation of international alliances around this type of project.
"I think it is very important for Colombia to have a presence on this type of platform, because it allows us to make visible the work that is being done from the regions and from the country, strengthen contact networks with professionals from all over the world and connect with people with great experience within the industry. In addition, these spaces allow us to better understand the markets and laboratories that can contribute to the development of future projects, so participating here has been a real privilege". Juana Lotero (Muchachita Chilapa, Docs in progress).
Strengthening international co-production networks
Colombian participation also reached the co-production meeting organized by the CNC for Andean countries with the help of the French Embassy in Colombia, where Colombian producers Simón Mesa, Paola Andrea Pérez, Martha Lucía Ceballos and Jeferson Cardoza were part of networking spaces with representatives of the French and Latin American industry.
For their part, Juan Pablo Solano, from Jaguar Bite, and Cristina Villar, from Perrenque Media Lab, participated in the market with fiction projects through Conexión Internacional. In addition to holding meetings with potential allies and co-producers, both took advantage of the industry spaces to present the tools and incentives that Colombia offers for international audiovisual production.
"In the multiple conversations of recent days around Colombian cinema, it has been very evident how several recent films have left a very positive reputation for those of us who arrive in Cannes today with new projects. Achieving nominations and awards in the main categories of spaces such as this festival not only represents recognition for the creators of those titles, but also for the entire Colombian audiovisual universe. There is a real interest in our country, in our stories and in finding new ways of working and collaborating with us." Cristina Villar (Perrenque Media Lab, Participant in the call for International Connection).
