Brazil. The Implementation Group for the Process of Redistribution and Digitalization of TV and RTV Channels (Gired), unanimously approved the use of test stations located in the municipalities of São Paulo and Brasilia for the continuous transmission of the programming of the Chamber of Deputies and the Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC).
The stations, implemented by Seja Digital within the framework of the Brazilian Digital Terrestrial Television System Evolution Project (SBTVD-T), will allow public broadcasters to integrate, from the beginning, the implementation of TV 3.0 in these locations, in accordance with the national implementation schedule.
According to Gired's resolution, the test stations must be made available to the Chamber of Deputies and the EBC at least one month before the date established by the Federal Government for the start of the operation of TV 3.0, without prejudice to the continuation of the technical tests coordinated by Seja Digital.
For Anatel's advisor and president of Gired, Octavio Penna Pieranti, "with this decision, Gired guarantees greater diversity and pluralism in Brazilian communication, and broadcasting, united and, therefore, stronger, will fulfill its function of defending rights."
The measure contributes to the coordinated progress of public and commercial broadcasters in the process of technological evolution, as occurred with the implementation of digital television in Brazil starting in 2007.
