Colombia. On June 13, Colombia commemorated 71 years since the first television broadcast in the country, an event that marked the beginning of a new era for culture, communication and national identity.
The Ministry of ICT of Colombia recalled that since that signal broadcast from the Palace of San Carlos in 1954, Colombian television has witnessed the most important moments in history, serving as a narrator of social transformations and a mirror of a diverse nation.
Throughout these more than seven decades, television has accompanied millions of homes, has educated generations, has reflected our accents, customs, challenges and joys. From the soap operas of the 60s, to the news, documentaries and productions that today cross borders, this medium has evolved without losing its essence: to tell what we are.
In this way, the ICT Ministry has played a fundamental role in strengthening the country's public television. Through calls and strategic programs, it has financed 4,956 audiovisual projects, which have nurtured the schedules of regional and national channels, guaranteeing content that represents all regions and communities of the country.
"Celebrating the 71st anniversary of television in Colombia is also recognizing its power to build the country. From the ICT Ministry we work to ensure that it continues to be a medium that informs, represents and connects the regions, promoting audiovisual talent with more and better opportunities," said the ICT Minister, Julián Molina.
Thanks to the impetus of the ICT Ministry, high-level productions such as 'Emma Reyes', 'Cosiaca' and 'La Vorágine' have seen the light, taking our stories to the international arena and raising the quality standards of public television. Added to this is high-quality animated content, which not only ratifies the commitment to excellence, but also represents an advance in the innovation of audiovisual formats and languages. These initiatives reaffirm the commitment to continue building a close, inclusive television at the service of the general interest.
In 2025, the commitment continues. The Ministry of ICT is working on new calls and strategies that guarantee access to a dynamic, sustainable public television capable of responding to the challenges of the digital environment, without losing its educational, cultural and territorial vocation.
Colombian television is an essential part of our memory and our present. Today we celebrate 71 years of a medium that is still alive, that is transforming and that, with the support of the Ministry, continues to be an engine of identity and national cohesion.
