With the extension of the validity of the concessions, legal certainty is given to the concessionaires to continue providing the broadcasting service in the AM and FM bands, in addition to the fact that the Institute will collect, in favor of the Treasury of the Federation, approximately 422,625,360 pesos as consideration for the granting of said extensions.
The extended concessions will serve the population of 22 states of the Mexican Republic: Aguascalientes (4); Baja California (5); Baja California Sur (1); Chiapas (2); Chihuahua (3); Coahuila (4); Durango (1); Guanajuato (3); Guerrero (1); Jalisco (1); Michoacán (2); Nuevo León (2); Oaxaca (1); Puebla (2); Quintana Roo (3); San Luis Potosí (1); Sinaloa (4); Sonora (4); Tabasco (3); Tamaulipas (3); Veracruz (4) and Yucatán (1).
Commercial use concessions are granted in accordance with article 76 section I of the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law (LFTyR) to for-profit individuals or legal entities to provide broadcasting service in the AM and FM bands. The Law also provides that concessions may be extended when the concessionaire submits its application in a timely manner, is in compliance with its obligations, accepts the new conditions and pays the amount of the consideration.
To date, the IFT has extended the validity of 1,253 sound broadcasting stations (FM and AM), of which 1,030 are for commercial use, which represents a collection to the public treasury of 3,267,523,643 pesos.
