Teleantioquia strengthens its virtual sets and cameras

Teleantioquia

Colombia. In 2023, the Colombian regional channel Teleantioquia made investments in technology close to $2,500 million pesos (about US$625,000), which allowed it to strengthen its camera systems, as well as virtual and remote production.

TVyVideo+Radio spoke with Andrés Álvarez, Teleantioquia's chief technical officer, who detailed some of the investments made this year. The first of them was focused on strengthening virtual production, for which they acquired an LED screen from the manufacturer Absen of 7 x 2.5 meters of pitch 1.5.

"We inaugurated this screen for the coverage of the regional elections last October and it was one of the main investments in terms of technology here on set. Another considerable investment was the issue of PTZ cameras. There are 6 cameras from Panasonic's top line, which are going to give a very different touch to the production, we have it initially focused on news production and they are cameras that allow us to have a resolution up to 4K," he said.

He added that "with these cameras, what we were looking for was to aim at automation and the use of resources. Also, from the point of view of signal management, we know that it is good to migrate certain flows through technologies, in this case through NDI, which will allow us to have flexibility and take advantage of video sources in a different way. That is why we acquired equipment that will allow us to integrate IP flow over NDI with baseband."

As a complement to the production of newscasts and content on set, they acquired teleprompters that allow the integration of the content system through the Octopus news system.

In terms of remote production, the channel is implementing a system that will begin with the transmission of the four daily lottery draws, which are held outside the channel. To this end, they acquired robotic cameras and a production system that will be controlled from the channel's headquarters.

"It is an innovative implementation for Teleantioquia, to make production more flexible and improve in a different way. We are going to be able to control the entire issue of cameras, video sources, lights, microphones, without the need to have a technician on site," said Andrés Álvarez.
