Colombia. In April 2023, the services sector boosted the Colombian economy by maintaining growth in wages, income and number of employed, as revealed by the most recent report by the Office of Economic Studies of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism based on DANE figures.
When comparing the performance of the sector in April of this year compared to the same month of 2022, several subsectors presented positive variations. For example, the motion picture and television production subsector was the best performer, with the highest annual revenue and employed growth of the month and year-on-year. Here are some of the highlights:
Wages
In April 2023, the 18 subsectors of services presented positive variation in wages compared to the same month of 2022, with the development of computer systems and data processing leading the figures with 18.1%; accompanied by telecommunications with 18.1%; other entertainment services with 16.6% and storage and activities complementary to transport 16.2%.
Revenue
In the fourth month of the year, 15 of the 18 services subsectors presented positive variation in revenues, compared to the same month of 2022.
In this case, the production of cinematographic films and television programs was the one that rebounded the most, with 73.5%; followed by real estate, rental of machinery and equipment with 25.2%; publishing activities with 21.6% and restaurant, catering and bar services with 17.3%.
Busy staff
The production of cinematographic films and television programs was the subsector that most boosted the employment of Colombians with a growth of 17.9% in April; administrative and office support activities increased by 6.3%; other entertainment services 6.0% and private human health services with hospitalization with 5.0%.
When comparing April 2023 with the same month in 2022, it was found that 14 of the 18 service subsectors presented positive variation in employed personnel.
Data from the Economic Studies Office of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism show that the production of cinematographic films and television programs, that of real estate, rental of machinery and equipment and computer systems and data processing are the subsectors that have led the figures so far this year.
