Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, registers a continuous growth in the granting of authorizations to provide radio service in the country in the last five years. To date, there are 6347 radio stations, which represents a growth of 10.4% compared to the 5749 that existed in 2019.
The MTC, through the General Directorate of Telecommunications Authorizations (DGAT), authorized the operation of 335 broadcasting stations in different parts of Peru in 2022, in order to promote formalization and that greater communication and integration alternatives can be generated in the country.
For this year these services will continue to be expanded because soon new public tenders will be called to grant new frequencies in Frequency Modulation (FM) and Medium Wave (OM) in different regions of the country to privilege broadcasting for educational purposes.
It is important to highlight the important evolution of radio in recent years, whose main characteristic is based on meeting the communication needs within their communities.
To date there are 1409 sound broadcasting stations for educational purposes compared to the 1220 that existed in 2019; which represents an increase of 15.5%. In addition, 80 stations with community purpose are registered compared to 63 in 2019; which means an increase of 27% and finally 4858 stations for commercial purposes, unlike the 4466 that existed in 2019; obtaining an increase of 8.8%.
The MTC presented this balance in the framework of the commemoration of World Radio Day.
