Chile. From February 12 of this year, the Regional Governments will have the powers to process requests for modification and assignment of concessions for citizen community radios. This was reported by the Secretariatof Telecommunications.
In this way, applications for the opening of a contest for citizen community radios (RCC); the - subsequent application for assignment of RCC concession; and requests for modification of the concession of community radios must be made on the respective websites of the Regional Governments.
This was established by Decree No. 299 of 2020, which will temporarily and jointly transfer to the Regional Governments the following powers:
1. Assignment, through public tender, of citizen community broadcasting (RCC) concessions in the region.
2. Reception and processing until the stage of publication of its extract, of the modifications of the concessions of citizen community broadcasting, in the region.
It is necessary to specify that SUBTEL will continue with the competences of the technical analysis of the feasibility of frequency requested, the analysis of the technical projects presented, and the rest of the bankruptcy process after the assignment, including the final granting of the concession.
In the case of applications for modification of community concessions, they can be entered throughout the year on the page of the respective GORES.
In accordance with the provisions of Decree 194 of 2022Open this document using the docReader ReadSpeaker, the beginning of the exercise of both competences by the GORES begins on February 12, 2023, therefore all requests for:
- Opening of citizen community radio contest corresponding to the second and third quarter of 2023.
- Application for assignment of concession of citizen community radios corresponding to the second and third quarter of 2023.
- Modification of the concession of citizen community radios
- They must be entered digitally on the website of the respective Regional Government, to which the commune where the concession is postulated or modified corresponds. There will be a special banner to access these procedures.
For example, if the request for opening, application or modification of concession is for the commune of Tierra Amarilla, they must enter the application of the respective procedure on the GORE page of Atacama.
SUBTEL's service channels will not be able to enter these requests from that date, during the year 2023.
In the case of requests for modification of concession, they can be entered throughout the year on the page of the respective GORS.
