Colombia. According to data reported by subscription television operators, revenue during the first half of 2022 was 1.71 billions colombian pesos (about US$335 million), which when compared to the same period of the previous year meant an increase of 0.46%.

This new report of the Subscription TV Data Flash, published by the Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, indicates that the number of subscribers also presented a growth of 4.77%, going from 6.05 million, in June 2021 to 6.3 million in June 2022, with a penetration in households of 36.52% for the first half of 2022.

The cities with the highest number of subscribers as of June 2022 continue to be Bogotá, Cali, Medellín and Barranquilla, and add 43.21% of the total users in the country.

At the departmental level, Antioquia has a household penetration of 51.46%, followed by Risaralda and Quindío with 49.84% and 46.90%, respectively. Bogotá, as a special district, registers a penetration of 51.56% of households connected to the subscription television service.

With respect to the departments that had the lowest household penetration, these were Putumayo with 6.60%, Vichada with 12.14%, and Caquetá with 13.08%.

The report also presents the average monthly income per subscriber, which had a decrease of 4.45%, going from $ 47,146 in the month of June 2021 to $ 45,046 in the same month of 2022.

Finally, the Data Flash indicates that the most used technology for the second quarter of 2022 was HFC Digital (hybrid fiber coaxial) with 4 million subscribers (63.81%), followed by Satellite technology with 1.2 million subscribers (19.25%), in third place, is IPTV (Internet protocol television) with 822 thousand subscribers (12.97%), of which 675 thousand subscribers have fiber optics.

"Within the framework of our open data strategy, it is essential for the CRC to make available to industry, academia, government and citizens in general, updated information with accurate and reliable data on the subscription television service, since data is a relevant input for informed decision making by market agents," explained Paola Bonilla Castaño, Executive Director of the CRC.
