Colombia. According to information from the National Administrative Department of Statistics, DANE, related to the quality of life of Colombians and access to connectivity, it was established that around 1.1 million rural households have access to the internet, which would be equivalent to 28.8% of these families have the service.
This in concrete figures means, according to the survey conducted on the quality of life of Colombians, that around 496,000 households have fixed internet, 767,000 with mobile internet and 140,000 households with fixed and mobile internet, said DANE.
Precisely, Liwa, a Colombian company is committed to connecting people who are in the countryside in municipalities and villages of the country, the company is working to help have internet in rural areas. As if it were something unprecedented, Liwa not only connects people with services and opportunities, but has also aimed to design and implement a service that transforms the lives of its users and that, those who have accessibility problems, find, more than the internet, a way to implement actions that change their environment.
To combat the lack of access in these regions and bring high-speed internet, the company has nearly 2,000 antennas installed to provide wireless internet to 11 of the 16 municipalities of Sumapaz. More than 12,000 users in these areas enjoy plans with speeds of 10 to 50 Megas unlimited, with rates starting from $ 50,000 pesos per month.
Municipalities such as Arbeláez, Chinauta, Fusagasugá, Granada, Icononzo, Nilo, Pandi, Pasca, Silvania, Subia, Tibacuy are already interconnected with the service provided through these antennas, but one of the company's challenges is to expand its coverage to more rural areas of Cundinamarca, as well as to other areas of the country to expand unlimited wireless internet coverage in Colombia.
Thus, Liwa, which has been in the market for 2 years, is committed to offering connectivity to those who have not yet accessed this service, impacting and managing to transform people's lives in areas of difficult access, impacting and reducing the digital gaps that exist in the country.
On this, Carlos Herrada, director of Liwa explained that "The families of these municipalities can enjoy unlimited internet, allowing people from the countryside and these municipalities to connect, children study, avoiding walking several kilometers to do homework, and in addition, many young people today can study at the university at a distance and even farmers can find out about the prices of their products and thus avoid being deceived when selling them. " Herrada explained.
In order to connect people with services and opportunities, the company aims to install around 5,000 new wireless internet antennas during the first half of 2023. Also bring internet with fiber optics with capacities from 500 megabytes to the urban areas of these municipalities, link these families with mobile phone services, television and other services.
These results start with an investment of around US $ 10 million since 2020, which today allows coverage in 92,000 homes in these and other municipalities, mainly in the center of the country.
