Ecuador. Technical personnel of the Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency, Arcotel, carried out an operation in which a clandestine telecommunications infrastructure used for irregular access to the television signal of legally authorized subscription audio and video service operators, known as illegal IPTV, was discovered.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Guayas, Judicial Police and criminalistics officers intervened, last Saturday, August 27, 2022, in a property located in the Lago de Capeira urbanization, between the De Los Girasoles road and the Perimetral road, in the city of Guayaquil.
This clandestine operator offered and marketed, mainly on social networks, more than 2,900 television channels, national and international, under the name of ECUAPLAYTV.
The Guayas Prosecutor's Office ordered the seizure of the infrastructure and other technical elements discovered. In addition, relevant investigations were launched to identify those responsible for this non-consensual access to a telecommunications system.
It should be noted that, in Ecuador, non-consensual access to a computer, telematic or telecommunications system is punishable by deprivation of liberty for three to five years in accordance with article 234 of the Organic Integral Penal Code (COIP).
Arcotel recalled that email is enabled [email protected], so that complaints about any illicit telecommunications are presented, which will be processed in a reserved way.
