Colombia updates Telcos service quality regime

telecomunicaciones

Colombia. The Ministry of ICT and the Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, presented Resolution CRC 6890 of 2022, which updates the Quality Regime of telecommunications services.

The purpose of this resolution is for operators to provide ever better voice and data service - fixed and mobile - and television. The entry into force of the Regime, from April 1, 2023, will allow Colombians to be active participants in the quality measurement of the mobile Internet, thanks to the implementation of a technology that massively collects this information from users' computers. This will be done through an application that citizens will be able to install.

Thanks to this update, the requirement to comply with quality indicators is extended to 803 municipalities, including the 32 departmental capitals, except only for the territories in which there are still challenges in infrastructure deployment.

From this new Regime, more efforts are concentrated on the measurement and fulfillment of goals in 4G mobile Internet, given that 82% of users connect in this way. Even, the regulation is articulated with the process of deployment and migration to new technologies advanced by the suppliers, and leveraged in the provisions of the sectoral public policy.

paola bonilla, crc"The new quality regime incorporates significant improvements and its modernization responds to the current reality of service provision, in pursuit of the well-being of all Colombians, and, especially, of those who live in rural and remote areas. At the same time, it incorporates incentives for technological updating and tools for proper monitoring by users and authorities. In addition, it was the result of a work that had a high participation of the sector, "said Paola Bonilla Castaño, Executive Director of the CRC.

In this way, users will also be able to make an informed decision when choosing which mobile operator to pay for a service, knowing which are the ones with the best indicators in their territory.
