Ooyala Flex Media Platform moves forward with Dalet

Latin America. Dalet has made significant strides in the development of Ooyala Flex Media Platforn. Acquired in July 2019, Dalet has accelerated solution engineering in four key areas: user experience; core platform performance and capabilities; APIs and OTT workflows.

The power brought by the acquisition of Dalet has enabled further growth and development, increasing the Platform's capabilities to serve a wider range of organizations looking to regain control of their video strategy, such as digital media teams, sports leagues and teams, as well as brands and media companies that are expanding their digital offerings and targeting the consumer directly at a rapid pace.

"Going beyond the traditional streaming space where Dalet has been a leader for years, Ooyala Flex Media Platform is meeting key media logistics requirements for companies like EnhanceTV, Arsenal Football Club and Migo in the Philippines, a startup that seeks to make OTT consumption of premium content affordable for developing countries, " commented Bea Alonso, Director of Product Marketing, Dalet.

He added that "With video as a core component of business plans today, these organizations require a content management platform that allows them to collaborate seamlessly, produce great content quickly, and take control of their media processing and distribution chain. Ooyala Flex Media Platform is designed to streamline workflows, allowing businesses to better monetize their content. It offers tremendous distribution versatility, enabling these companies to launch social, digital and OTT campaigns and content offerings quickly and efficiently."

Key development initiatives over the past six months include:
Improved support for OVP/OTT workflows
Ooyala Flex Media Platform extends its support for delivering content to a variety of OVP providers, including the latest plug-in enhancements for Brightcove. "Our commitment to supporting OTT workflows is a priority for Dalet and has been demonstrated in recent releases. Going forward, we will continue to increase cross-platform distribution capabilities," says Lincoln Spiteri, Vice President of Engineering, Dalet. New OTT capabilities include support for MPEG-DASH and increased support for complex metadata hierarchies and taxonomies.

Exceptional user experience
OoyalaMAM's latest web interface, which has been designed in direct collaboration with customers, provides an exceptional user experience that enables rapid adoption of tools and workflows. New features include advanced asset search capabilities, including descriptive and temporal metadata, easy metadata preparation, and tools for organizing large collections of assets. In addition, OoyalaMAM also provides content display aids with wave and audio levels, in addition to an accurate HTML5 video player, which includes MP4, MPEG-DASH and HLS with audio switching and subtitles.

Formidable and scalable infrastructure
Dalet I&D has significantly advanced the scalability, operability and reliability of the Ooyala Flex Media Platform. The Platform has consolidated its multi-cloud capabilities and is available for deployment on Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. It also supports on-premise deployments. Spiteri adds, "Working in the cloud is one thing, working well in the cloud is another. Since 2015, Ooyala Flex Media Platform has taken a cloud-native approach to its architecture. The Platform is based on a collection of microservices fully compatible with modern DevOps practices." An updated storage abstraction layer improves the placement of assets in storage solutions, enabling more efficient operations across multiple locations with options for moving assets and workflows to the cloud through hybrid deployments.

Integration-ready open platform
Designed to integrate with any system with an open API, Ooyala Flex Media Platform can extend workflows through messaging plugins and custom scripts. Alternatively, its REST API allows customers to build their own applications on top of the Platform. New APIs in recent releases allow customers to develop native plugins that can be integrated into the overall Platform configuration. The Job Execution Framework (JEF) and related SDK are available to customers who wish to extend the Platform beyond what can be achieved through scripts.
