We need more effective and easy-to-grow solutions

Colombia. VRC, a company that since 1993 provides the audiovisual industry with cutting-edge technology, was selected by the firm NewTek to distribute exclusively for Colombia its new IP Series composed of video Mix Engine, Studio Input Module, Studio Output Module and the 4-Strip Control Panel.

The company, directed by Hernán Suescún, is considered by María Claudia Torres, Director of Demand Generation LATAM of NewTek, as the leading company in Colombia capable of supporting with highly qualified personnel, who have a reliable structure and who have a great track record in the country.

TVyVideo+Radio was accompanying them in the launch for Colombia of this new NewTek IP Series, which was in charge of Víctor Dupret, Regional Sales Manager of NewTek.

Hernán Suescún said that "NewTek entered Colombia many years ago with the Video Toaster, which nobody believed worked, but definitely surprised us to the extent that it has always worked, NewTek have always thought a little out of the box, presenting much more innovative solutions and there is almost no other brand in the market that is as innovative as them, currently in the market there is already a lot of NewTek equipment, for many applications, today  we are basically talking about two topics, the first is IP and the second is 4k and 8k formats, our production technology is moving towards the IP side and that is what we have to rethink today, in how we are going to grow for tomorrow, work on more effective, cheaper and easier to grow solutions. We're going to have to change the way we think."

Luis Pinto: Today you are introducing us to a team that works and integrates IP protocols in its development, why are these equipment the future of TV production?
H. S.:
At VCR we believe that this is the clearest, most efficient and economical  way to change existing workflows, it is the future now. NDI is a protocol developed by Newtek to allow video sharing over a local  network (LAN). Newtek believes that the future of the Video industry is the one that allows  video, audio and data to be transferred through an IP space, this is the vision that completely  exceeds the current formats of SDI, HDMI etc, on the production line. NDI allows multiple video systems to identify and communicate with each other within an IP environment,  so that it can encode, transmit and receive many streams of very high quality, low latency  with frame accuracy and in real time.

This new technology allows any equipment connected to the network such as Video Mixers, Graphics Systems, Capture Cards, and in general  any other production equipment to share information in a bidirectional way. NDI operates bidirectionally over the LAN network, with many shared streams, is independent of each Frame-rate, supports 4K, has grouping tools, bidirectional metadata, commands over IP, and excellent behavior over GbE networks, this allows an easy and economical transition over current systems.

On the other hand, the event was attended by the Sales Director for Latin America of NewTek, it is Mr. Filippo Ferlini who highlighted the following:
We are here in Bogotá to present NDI (Network Device Interface), our proposed protocol to work in IP, we interpret that television stations and all entities that produce video or that handle audio and video content are facing the need to have to produce more for different media spending less.

The IP solution for us is the natural solution to get out of the way at this juncture, so as NewTek we  present a protocol called NDI (Network Device Interface) and that allows sharing resources and work on traditional Ethernet networks, in this demonstration we are working with networks of one giga but that will depend on the needs of customers.

We are sharing resources with great ease and flexibility that is, we can have Play out operations, Streaming, along with ingest operations, receive materials from remote cameras, all together with an Ethernet network for live productions, we offer the client or the entity that requests us a comprehensive solution based on IP. Our entire workflow has as its heart IP systems the processing is no longer done  on SDI, baseband, but we convert the SDI signal to process it into IP, this allows us a lot of resources at a very affordable cost, any computer that is on a network can monitor video signals as well as it can be  a source, just as it can be a destination, this is the flexibility that we believe  is fundamental for the market at the moment.

This IP protocol solution, NDI (Network Device Interface), I believe opens a new and great horizon, production is not limited by hardware and all sources and destinations can communicate with each other. The efficiency and flexibility of IP, with NewTek's approach to live production through established software, defines a new workflow paradigm, resulting in interconnected production with many devices since it is software with gateways, which allows NDI packets to move smoothly through emerging media IP protocols such as SMPTE 2022-6 and ASPEN and vice versa.

This protocol has great virtues for live transmission, its network latency is approximately 1ms since the audio and video are encoded separately, they move as totally asynchronous streams through the network, which is beneficial because neither blocks the other, there is no buffering, it is a real-time protocol.
